General Handbook for Practitioners


Section 1 - The Study of Kenpo:

1.1 There are many reasons why Martial Arts practitioners should consider the application and practice of Kenpo. A few are as follow:

1.2  To preserve the heritage of Kenpo, the oldest system of Martial Arts.

1.3  To learn a unique Martial Art that focuses on true self-defense in empty hand and weapons applications against skilled, armed, and multiple opponents who will attack with a wide variety of strikes, locks, kicks, punches, grabs, chokes, and take downs etc.

1.4  To strengthen the body and to increase one’s endurance in martial Arts training and other athletic activities.

1.5  To aid in development of motor skills in adults and children through intensive training in a variety of hand, body, and foot movements.

1.6  To increase self confidence, self esteem, and mental stimulation.

1.7  To learn physical analyzation and link both mind and body so it acts as one unit.

1.8  To supplement one’s self confidence and self worth, to instill in the practitioner the knowledge that any part of the body or any object may be used as a weapon in the hands of a skilled practitioner of Kenpo.

Section 2 - Kenpo JuJutsu Membership Information

2.1  Membership is open to any practitioner or individual who desires to learn the Kenpo System or be affiliated with the KJJA. Membership is open to any individuals who are members in good standing of recognized, authentic Charter Studio.

2.2  All prospective members who hold rank in other systems are required to fulfill all requirements as set forth by the KJJA for the next rank or grade.

Section 3 - Studio (DOJO) Membership/Charter

3.1  Studio membership will be available. The cost of a Studio Membership will be $100.00 per year.

3.2  All applications for Studio memberships should be submitted to the President of the KJJA for approval.

3.3  Applications should be made to either the President directly or to the Senior Vice President who will forward the application to the President for consideration of becoming a KJJA Studio.

3.4  The President shall have the final decision on Studio Membership/Charters.

Section 4 - Individual Membership:

4.1  Individuals who seek membership within the KJJA may be allowed same as follows:

4.2  Individual practitioners must be enrolled in a Charter Studio.

4.3  The prospective member must agree to abide by all KJJA policies and regulations as set forth in the By laws and General handbook.

Section 5 - Fees for individual Membership, Charters and Certificates:

5.1  There is a yearly membership fee for all Studio Charters. This fee covers all individual membership of students enrolled at the Studio.

5.2  Studio Charters are to be renewed yearly. The membership fees are to be paid directly to the KJJA headquarters through the head instructor.

Charter Studios who are tardy in payment or who allow membership to lapse are not eligible for promotion promotion of students or other services offered by the KJJA.

5.4  Certificate fees will be assessed as follows to all KYU, Yellow through Brown Belt, all Youth, and Dan all Black Belt Degree Certificates. Certificate fees are as follows:

All Youth Black Belt Degrees - $0.00
All Dan Rank Degrees - $0.00
All Instructor Certification - $20.00
Senior Instructor - $30.00
Master Instructor
- $40.00

5.5  All Certificate fees include: Cost of production of the Certificate and recording and certification of the rank at the KJJA Headquarters.

5.6  All Studio Charter Fees for memberships and certificates must be paid in full prior to receipt.

5.7  The KJJA will mail all charter membership certificates via 1st class mail. In the event any or all certificates are damaged in shipment, they will be replaced for the cost of shipping only. A $5.00 fee will be added to all orders to allow for postage.

5.8  The KJJA shall not interfere with the fees that Instructors may choose to charge their students over and above the certificate fees assessed by the KJJA. However, it shall be noted that the KJJA wishes to keep testing fees reasonable and affordable so that students will be able to train in the Art of Kenpo and thus, wishes for its head instructors to keep their charges at an affordable level.

5.9  The Following ranks will be awarded in Kenpo JuJutsu to any member in good standing as follows:

Adult Ranks in Kenpo JuJutsu

Level - Belt Worn

White - White Belt
Yellow - Yellow Belt
Orange - Orange Belt
Purple - Purple Belt
Blue - Blue Belt
Green - Green Belt
3rd Degree Brown - Brown Belt w/1 stripe, plain Brown Belt or Brown Belt w/Kenpo Jujutsu Kanji one side only. Stripes can be added to the open end of the Belt.
2nd Degree Brown - Brown Belt w/2 stripes, plain Brown Belt, or Brown Belt w/Kenpo Jujutsu Kanji one side only. Stripes can be added to the open end of the Belt.
1st Degree Brown - Brown Belt w/3 stripes, plain Brown Belt, or Brown Belt w/Kenpo Jujutsu Kanji on one side only. Stripes can be added to the open end of the Belt.
Shodan - Black Belt w/Kanji & w/1 stripe, Black Belt w/1 stripe, Black Belt w/Kanji, or plain Black Belt.
Nidan - Black Belt w/Kanji & w/2 stripes, Black Belt w/2 stripes, Black Belt w/Kanji, or plain Black Belt.
Sandan - Black Belt w/Kanji & w/3 stripes, Black Belt w/3 stripes, Black Belt w/Kanji, or plain Black Belt.
Yodan - Black/Red Panel Belt w/Kanji, Black Belt w/ Kanji, or plain Black Belt - Stripes can be added to Black Belt with or without Kanji.
Godan - Red/Black Panel Belt w/ Kanji, Black Belt w/Kanji, or plain Black Belt - Stripes can be added to Black Belt with or without Kanji.
Rokudan - Red/White Panel Belt w/ Kanji, Black Belt w/Kanji, or plain Black Belt - Stripes can be added to Black Belt with or without Kanji.
Shichidan - Red/White Panel Belt w/ Kanji, Black Belt w/Kanji, or plain Black Belt - Stripes can be added to Black Belt with or without Kanji.
Hachidan - Red Belt w/ Black Edge Trim w/ Kanji, Black Belt w/Kanji, or plain Black Belt - Stripes can be added to Black Belt with or without Kanji.
Kudan - Red Belt w/ Kanji or Black Belt w/ Kanji, or plain Black Belt - Stripes can be added to Black Belt with or without Kanji.
Judan - Red Belt w/Kanji, Black Belt w/Kanji, Red Belt w/Gold Edge Trim w/Kanji, or plain Black Belt - Stripes can be added to Black Belt with or without Kanji.

5.10  The Following ranks will be awarded in Kenpo JuJutsu to any Youth Member in good standing as follows:

Level - Belt Worn

Jr. White - White Belt with black stripe
Jr. Yellow - Yellow Belt with black stripe
Jr. Orange - Orange Belt with black stripe
Jr. Purple - Purple Belt with black stripe
Jr. Blue - Blue Belt with black stripe
Jr. Green
- Green Belt with black stripe
Jr. 3rd Degree Brown - Brown Belt with black stripe, with or without 1 stripe
Jr. 2nd Degree Brown - Brown Belt with black stripe, with or without 2 stripes
Jr. 1st Degree Brown - Brown Belt with black stripe, with or without 3 stripes
Jr. Black - Black Belt with Red stripe
