Nidan is the second black belt rank in Kenpo Karate and all Japanese martial arts. The rank is always awarded as Nidan by a Kenpo karate Yudansha, while those Kenpo Karate instructors who were never awarded a rank by a Yudansha give only a second degree black belt rank.
There are 477 techniques and variations of the techniques required for a Tracy's Kenpo karate Nidan, Second Degree Black Belt
Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) consists of 30 Self Defense Techniques and 22 Variations, & 3 Katas.
The time required to attain Nidan is approximately 2 years of training after receiving Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt). Students have been studying and/or teaching for approximately 7 or 8 years to achieve the Nidan Rank. This time frame is approximate and denotes continuous training
The Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) Test consists of all techniques taught Yellow Belt thru 2nd Degree Black Belt done on both sides. All Katas will be done on only one side. The Instructor will select basics at time of test so the student should be prepared to do any or all of the basics. Each basic will be done 5 times each and will include kicks and punches done on both sides against a bag or focus pad.
At this point in the students training they have learned 479 Self Defense Techniques and Variations & 19 Katas.
